Nov 28, 2019It looks like the ARRL’s $5 shipping works for international orders.
Maybe a good time to buy those heavy things which would otherwise attrack super expensive international shipping!

→ View toot on mastodon.radioSpent my weekend messing about on mountains in Snowdonia. Had an excellent time with a great snowy wild camp and some icy scrambling.
Lost a UV-5R in the snow but I hope someone else will pick it up and have some fun with with it.
Had fun at the club’s construction completion. Some interesting bits and bobs on display and a good bit of catching up and talking shop.
→ View toot on mastodon.radioHaving a quick play with my nanoVNA before heading out. This thing is cool! Especially coupled with the nanovna-saver software.
It’s really fun being able to measure filters so easily. #hamradio #amateurradio

→ View toot on mastodon.radioNice, a new RadCom plus issue:

Not sure there has been one of these released since I joined.
It’s a shame the subscription process is such a farce though. The email called it quick and easy and the link took me to the RSGB shop, (which looks like it’s from 1990), and then I had to supply a load of details to subscribe!
→ View toot on mastodon.radioJust found out the TNC Pi Kit I ordered got sent back to the US.
Apparantly I failed to pay a customs charge I was notified of. I guess the local post office managed to lose the card because it definitely didn’t arrive at my office. Grrrr!
→ View toot on mastodon.radioRecently, I’ve been playing with chezmoi ( https://github.com/twpayne/chezmoi) as a way to manage my shell/editor config files, and I’ve re-architected my old zsh framework to use the more modern zplug plugin manager ( https://github.com/zplug/zplug).
I’ve been storing my configs in both github ( https://github.com/mattfoster/dotfiles) and keybase, and finding it a great way to keep home/work configs up to date as I make changes.
I have a bunch of random projects and scripts laying about that I’ll merge/add as I get time.
→ View toot on mastodon.radioThis weekend Dad (@Powyssafety) visited and we upgraded my antenna pole! We managed to make it a fair bit higher, so I’m hoping it won’t offend anyone enough to cause complaints, but that hasn’t happened so far!
I’m looking forward to seeing what difference having the white stick above the roof line makes, after rejigging some cables and maybe adding some surge protection.
Now I need to get back into the tree and see if I can raise things a bit on that end too!
→ View toot on mastodon.radioMigrated my domain’s MX to ProtonMail. So far I’m really impressed with the look and feel and ease of setup.
Migrating away from gmail will be a gradual and probably painful process!
